MPSSA Secretary’s Report 2025
Welcome to the 2025 MPSSA AGM
I would like to thank you all for attending today and showing your support and interest in the
association.
I’m sure most of you will have noticed the short turnaround since our last meeting in December. The
reasons for us being here today are simple. We are looking to bring our AGM’s back in line with the
financial year, something we’ve been unable to do since before covid. This will, as we move forward,
allow the committee to keep you, the members, better informed with regards to the position of the
association.
With that in mind you’ll find that my report is shorter than in previous years.
However, I am still keen to share some key updates with you.
The MPSSA continues to support its members in their participation of Cricket, Basketball, Football,
Golf, Hockey, Tennis, Netball, Rugby, Swimming, Volleyball, Judo, Crossfit, Cross Country and Rock
Climbing.
At the start of the financial year we were again able to increase the amount of funding made
available to the sporting sections.
I look forward to reporting back this year’s success stories next summer.
In terms of our membership base, we are still seeing a steady increase in our subscribing members.
A significant factor in the uplift is the work completed by the gym SPOC’s, resulting in over 2000 gym
users.
We continue to see new members signing up each and every month.
I’d like to offer a special, thanks to the Association’s current assistant Secretary, John Denton, for the
incredible amount of work he’s done around memberships, recruitment and gym improvements. I’d
also like to highlight the efforts of Aly Keogh for her support and work around the gyms and their
maintenance.
Thank you both.
In relation to the gyms, the association has been able to provide more financial support than ever
before. New equipment is being purchased and supplied by the association on a regular basis.
A large piece of work is underway that will bring a number of smaller gyms located across the force
area under the umbrella of the MPSSA. This will inevitably generate a further increase in our
membership base, providing a further revenue stream that can be used to further support the
upkeep and improvement of our members facilitates.
In terms of Riversdale itself, many of you will notice the improvements that have been made to the
club house and grounds over the past couple of months. The drive has been fully repaired and re-
laid. The decking was fully replaced last year and the bar area has been rebuilt with the clubhouse
being subject to a fresh coat of paint.
The committee will continue to look to further improve Riversdale and plans are afoot to continue
this regeneration over the next 12 months.
The lottery is going from strength to strength with £1100 being paid out in prize money each month.
It’s our hope that we will be able to expand on the lottery in the next few months, opening it up to
new players and offering an increase in the prizes being paid out.
I would also like to formally record the associations thanks to Sarah Doyle for her support and
commitment.
The work carried out by Sarah and her team along with our committee members, particularly our
Treasurer, Anita Rotheram, mean that the club is generating more revenue than it has done for
many years.
I won’t steal the Treasurer’s thunder, but the associations financial footing is more secure now than
it has been in recent memory.
There are an exciting 12 months ahead for the association, with opportunities for growth both
through the sporting sections and commercially at Riversdale.
Finally, as I’m sure you are all aware the Chief Constable, our President, is due to retire from her role
at the end of August. On behalf of the association and management committee I’d like to offer a
huge thank you for your support. The association wouldn’t be what it is now without the backing of
MerPol and its Chief officers.
Slightly further down the line, we will also be losing our Chair, the Deputy Chief Constable, Mr
Green, who is due to retire at the end of the year. Mr Green’s support of the association has been
invaluable during his tenure as Chair, bringing real focus and drive to the management committee.
Thank you to all those who have taken the time to attend this year’s meeting and for those who
have been unable to attend I hope this report finds you well.

Treasurer's Report 2025
Good afternoon. For the first time for a number of years we have audited
accounts up to year ending 2025. Copies of these accounts will be available on
the website in the days following this meeting.
Our Accountant, Simon Kirkham has produced a summary of these accounts
which he has given me permission to share with you.
Following on from this Summary, I would just like you to know that since the
last AGM in January, the Association has paid out the following:
The HMRC debt has been reduced by over £16,000.
Over £29,000 has been spent on new equipment for the gyms.
Over £4,000 has been spent on repairs to existing gym equipment.
Over £5,000 has been allocated to Sporting Sections and the Association will
continue to provide as much support as possible.
Almost £4,000 has been paid to PSUK so that the Sporting Sections can
compete nationally.
The Clubhouse has benefitted from a new bar, decoration and new security
lighting outside.
As of this morning the Association has £66,115 in the Bank Accounts.
I would like to thank Simon, on behalf of the Committee for all his hard work
getting the accounts up to date and all of his financial advice and support.
I would also like to thank everyone who has given up their time and energy to
get the Association and the club to the position we are now in. In particular I
would like to thank Sarah and her staff for their support, Gareth Howells, Ken
Wagner, Kev Hanson and Andrew Rotheram for their invaluable input.

Financial Statements 31 March 2025
Full financial statements can be viewed/ downloaded via the below link.
Review Of Main Points Of Accounts
Year Ended 31 March 2025
1. The Association has managed to achieve a surplus in the year of £65,821 after
payment of expenses and funding to clubs.
2. The Association paid off it’s brewery loan in full which was quite an achievement.
3. The Association also paid off its debt to HMRC VAT and is working on reducing its
historic PAYE liabilities.
4. There are outstanding HMRC Corporation Tax fines of £2,400 for non-filed
corporation tax returns by the previous accountants. This matter is currently being
remedied. We will apply to appeal against these fines based upon the unusual
circumstances that the club has been through in the last few years. We will also
submit all outstanding Returns to regularise the position.
5. The last formal accounts prepared were in 2021. Accordingly, there are no
comparative figures for 31 March 2024 accounts for inclusion in the financial
statements. I have reconstructed the financial statements at 31 March 2025 to
include all transactions within the year and to to include all outstanding balances on
the balance sheet at the year end. Accordingly, I am happy that we have an accurate
set of figures to move forward with in the future.
6. I can go back and reconstruct the previous years accounts but need Committee
approval to incur such time.
7. During the year the club has spent funds on such items as a new driveway, gym
equipment, defibrillator and substantial improvements to the club itself.
8. The Association has also provide funding to all the associated clubs.
9. The club have also managed to reduce the astronomical heat and light bill amongst
other savings as a result of careful housekeeping.
Overall it has been a very pleasing year. The Association is now fully back on it’s feet and is
now at a point where it can build for a strong future. Long may it continue.
